What is common between Cape Town, Lord’s and the Indian team?

The Indian team and rains seem to be travelling buddies nowadays. For the second time in 2018, the Indian Test team has visited a city to play a high-profile Test and has brought with it some some much needed rain.

Earlier in January, India traveled to Cape Town for the first Test against South Africa. The city was reeling under the worst drought in decades with the city expected to go dry by April.

Thankfully, it rained with such intensity on the third day of the first Test that there was no play possible.

Moving on to India’s ongoing tour of England. The entire country is reeling under a severe heat wave and India were expected to be at home against England in the five-match series. Groundsmen in London were struggling to keep the pitch and square well hydrated, leading to doubts in the English camp.

But on the very first day of the second Test at Lord’s, it rained incessantly to force a wash-out. Also, it rained intermittently on the second day, to give some much needed respite to Londoners and also liven up the Lord’s pitch for English seamers.

So if your city is in desperate need of rain, just host a Test match against India.
