India batsman KL Rahul revealed he received timely support from Virat Kohli and his now wife Anushka Sharma on his Test debut against Australia in Melbourne in 2014.

Rahul had a horror Test debut as he was out for three and one. As expected, he was low on confidence which didn’t escape the attention of Kohli’s partner Anushka. The couple decided to help Rahul during the tough time.

Talking about that period during an interview on chat show ‘Open House with Renil’, Rahul said: “Anushka could see I was down and dejected. She came to my room and said ‘we are not going to let you sit in the room alone. Me and Virat are going to take you out’. They shared their stories (of failure), which made me feel a lot better. We had a week’s break before the next game and every night they took me out.

“They are an amazing couple and have had a powerful influence on me as a person,” Rahul added.
