The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed that Anil Kumble will not continue as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team.

This comes on the back of recent reports that Kumble and India captain Virat Kohli weren’t on the best of terms.

In the ICC Champions Trophy, which ended just two days ago, India reached the final before losing to Pakistan. The next assignment for the Men in Blue is a tour to the West Indies where they will play five ODIs and one T20I.

In a media release, Acting Secretary of the BCCI Amitabh Choudhary said: “We wish to place on record our sincere appreciation for the immense contribution by Anil Kumble to the team which enabled India to attain the No.1 Test position. Indian cricket needs his continued contribution in various capacities and wishes him all the best in his future endeavour.”

Under Kumble, India won 12 from 17 Test matches which sees them sit at the top of the ICC Test Rankings.

Former India greats Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman have been tasked with selecting his successor.
