The Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI] have announced Dinesh Karthik as the replacement for the injured Manish Pandey for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

According to a media release from the BCCI, Pandey has a left side strain which he sustained during a practice session.

Pandey’s injury saw him miss out on Kolkata Knight Riders’ victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League [IPL] Eliminator which started on Wednesday but ended past midnight due to a lengthy rain delay.

Karthik was part of the Indian team that won the previous edition of the Champions Trophy in 2013 but hasn’t played for the Men in Blue since March 2014.

The Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held between June 1-18, with India set to open their campaign with a match against Pakistan on June 4.
