MS Dhoni slammed an impressive century to guide Jharkhand to a 78-run win over Chhattisgarh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Sunday.

Batting first, Jharkhand were in all sorts of trouble, being reduced to 57-6. But in stepped Dhoni, who paced his innings to perfection to help Jharkhand put on 243 for the loss of nine wickets in their 50 overs.

The former India captain scored 129 from just 107 deliveries in a knock which included 10 fours and six sixes.

In reply, Chhattisgarh were bowled out for 165 with Varun Aaron and Shahbaz Nadeem picking up three wickets each.

Speaking after the match, former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif – who is the captain of Chhattisgarh – was full of praise for Dhoni, insisting that the 35-year-old is still good enough for all three formats.

“He has natural abilities which you saw today (Sunday). I believe he is still good enough for all formats of the game. He is still hitting the ball hard,” said Kaif.

“I have been watching Dhoni since his debut match and always felt you cannot become a ‘Dhoni’ just by practice.”

Dhoni retired from Test cricket in December 2014. He is still a member of India’s limited-overs teams but quit as captain last month.
