Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin broke Kapil Dev’s record for the most Test wickets in a single home season during the first Test against Australia on Friday.

Early on day two of the Test, Ashwin dismissed Mitchell Starc which was his 64th Test wicket this season in his 10th Test. Kapil Dev had taken 63 wickets in 13 Tests in the 1979-80 home season.

With one innings still left in this Test and three more matches to go in this season, expect Ashwin to hold a healthy lead at the top of the list soon.

The 30-year-old has been in supreme form in recent times and was named the ICC Cricketer of the Year and the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year in 2016.

Ashwin’s spin partner Ravindra Jadeja – with 48 wickets – is also among the top five names and could climb up the list during the ongoing series.
