India U-19 trainer Rajesh Sawant passes away in Mumbai hotel

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BBCI) have confirmed that India U-19 trainer Rajesh Sawant passed away in a Mumbai hotel on Sunday.

Sawant, along with the India U-19 team and staff, was in Mumbai as they prepare for the series against England U-19.

“BCCI regrets to inform that India Under-19 strength and conditioning trainer Rajesh Sawant passed away, in his sleep, in Mumbai, on Sunday morning,” said the BCCI in a statement.

“Sawant was on national duty with the India Under-19 team preparing for the series against the touring England Under-19 team.”

“Sawant, 45, is survived by his wife and daughter.”

BCCI Joint Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary sent his condolences to Sawant’s family.

“On behalf of the BCCI, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and our prayers are with them, to overcome this irreparable loss,” said Chaudhary.
