Yuzvendra Chahal looking to flight the ball on bigger ground in Nagpur

Speaking on the eve of the second T20I against England, Yuzvendra Chahal feels that a big ground like the one at Nagpur will give spinners like him more confidence to flight the ball.

The Indian leg-spinner has grown from strength to strength over the last few years.

Since being picked up by the Royal Challengers Bangalaore (RCB) in 2014, he has managed to make people stand up and take notice of his performances.

His consistency saw him earn an India cap last year and he has managed to keep his place in the T20I team for now.

“Big ground makes a difference. You can flight the ball. Also there’s a doubt in batsmen’s mind as to which ball to hit and he will have to make a choice,” said Chahal.

“In a small ground, batsman can try hitting every ball, but here he has to pick and choose.”

England defeated India convincingly in the first T20I between the two sides at Kanpur on Thursday.

Although the Indians didn’t have a good outing, Chahal did reasonably well in picking up two wickets for 27 runs in his four overs.

The 26-year-old feels that the English batsmen’s aggressive batting style is a plus point for the bowlers.

“We have not discussed [bowling strategy], but the way they batted in the previous game gives a plus point to the bowlers as they were trying to hit each and every ball,” he said.

“I got hit for a six on the first ball and then I got a wicket [of Roy]. You have got six balls while the batsman has just one ball. You have to plan accordingly because T20 is such a quick format where you have to be on your toes always as you don’t what will happen next.”
