Former Indian captain Ganguly has rubbished reports that he could become the next president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Stories emerged stating that Ganguly is the favourite for the post after Anurag Thakur was sacked by the Supreme Court of India.

Ganguly is currently the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), but mentioned that he does not have the required qualifications to become the BCCI president.

“My name is coming up unnecessarily. I don’t qualify. I have just completed one year [as CAB president] and have got two more years left. I am not in the running,” said Ganguly.

“We are having an office-bearers’ meeting on Wednesday where we will decide on the future.”

Thakur, along with BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke, were sacked on Monday for failing to implement the recommendations put forward by the Lodha Committee.
