Indian cricket’s governing body have strongly opposed the Decision Review System (DRS) over the last few years, but a change might be on its way if Kohli’s press conference on Thursday is anything to go by.

The nation’s star batsman, speaking one day before the start of the second Test against New Zealand at Kolkata, mentioned that he is keen for the introduction of technology in the future and there have been discussions regarding its use.

India had a couple of umpiring decisions go against them in the Kanpur Test, but Kohli feels that his team can’t complain because they are the ones who chose to not use DRS.

“We have had discussions on this. Certainly we will look to introduce it in future. We won’t take decisions too hard because we, in the first place, decided that we will not use DRS,” the 27-year-old said.

Last month, BCCI President Anurag Thakur had said that the BCCI were open to using DRS without Hawk-Eye technology – given that some question marks have been raised about the accuracy of the ball-tracking system recently.

Speaking about the issue, Kohli said: “Those things I can’t say yes or no sitting here. We have discussed. We have had meetings about it. There are some areas that can be debated, especially the ball tracking and Hawk-Eye. It can be discussed or debated upon.”

DRS is used in every Test series that is played across the world, apart from ones involving India and ones that are hosted by Zimbabwe. While India don’t support the system, Zimbabwe don’t have the finances to implement the technology.

India and New Zealand face off in the second Test of the three-match Test series at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Friday. The hosts lead the series 1-0 after a thumping 197-run win at Kanpur.
