India and West Indies will lock horns in Florida later this month in a two-match T20 series. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the BCCI president Anurag Thakur on the sidelines of the board’s Working Committee meeting in Mumbai.

The two games will be played on August 27 and 28 in the city of Lauderhill at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium, USA’s only ICC accredited stadium.

The venue hosted six matches of the Caribbean Premier League this season and in the past has also been the venue for four T20Is featuring teams like New Zealand, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.

Officials from the BCCI and WICB met in Florida recently to discuss the possibility of playing two T20Is after the conclusion of the ongoing Test series.

However, there were logistical hurdles in the process, specifically the procurement of US visas for the players. The issue was subsequently resolved after the BCCI submitted all the relevant paperwork to expedite the process with the US embassy in Jamaica.

In an official press release, Thakur said that they are considering making this T20I series in the USA an annual fixture.

“As part of our continuous efforts to reach out to new markets and audiences, I am very happy to announce that Team India will play two T20Is against the current world champions West Indies in the United States,” he said.

“This will be a great opportunity for the cricket fans in America to watch the two champion sides in action. This will be developed into an annual cricketing event in the United States.”

India and West Indies are currently in Jamaica playing the second Test of the four-match series. India lead the series 1-0.
