According to Indian daily newspaper, The Hindu, 37-year old Indian fast-bowler, Ashish Nehra is one of the front-runners to become the national team’s new bowling coach.

Nehra, who recently represented India in the World T20, is likely to get the nod ahead of former teammate Zaheer Khan when the contracts for India’s coaching staff come up for renewal next month.

Bharat Arun is currently serving in the role, but with the appointment of a new head coach on the cards an overhaul of the entire coaching unit is likely.

It is believed that young Indian fast-bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have credited Nehra for helping them improve their game and is one of the primary reasons why the Board of Control for Cricket in India is looking at the Delhi player to make the move into the backroom setup.

That Nehra only plays T20Is helps his cause, with India not featuring in that format much in 2016, allowing him to spend more time with the Indian Test and ODI units should he take up the position.

If appointed, Nehra will join his former colleague, Sanjay Bangar, who is currently India’s batting coach.
