In a move that could end up having serious repercussions on the careers of many top Indian cricketers, the Board of Control for Cricket in India asked on Wednesday for the names of the ten players submitted to the Supreme Court as part of the Mudgal probe panel findings.

Leading Indian daily newspaper, the Times of India (TOI) reported that the BCCI is keen on getting to know the player names in an attempt to shield itself from the flak it has been receiving lately from India’s highest judicial authority.

The Justice Mukul Mudgal led probe panel was formed in the aftermath of the IPL spot-fixing episode in 2013 to investigate corruption in Indian cricket, culminating in Justice Lodha committee’s verdicts that brought a temporary end to the participation of two IPL franchises – Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in 2015.

The TOI report suggests that the BCCI lawyers are likely to put this request forward in the course of arguments in the court in the days to come. Only three (those of administrators) out of thirteen names mentioned in the findings of Justice Mudgal have come out in the open; the names of ten others were not revealed. The board now wants the Supreme Court to reveal those ten names to the BCCI or to the CBI to further probe the allegations.

“We want those names to come out. Why were those names not made public? It’s after all a Supreme Court-appointed committee. Fans should know all the names which appeared in the Justice Mudgal’s probe report,” the newspaper quoted an unnamed BCCI official.

It was widely speculated that names of top current Indian cricketers were mentioned in Justice Mudgal’s submission and the revelation could very well spell doom for the futures of all those involved.
