Star Afghanistan player Rashid Khan had to undergo treatment for concussion after taking a blow to the head during Afghanistan’s 2019 World Cup match against New Zealand on Saturday.

He was struck on the helmet by fast bowler Lockie Ferguson. Rashid departed when he leaned into a delivery from Ferguson that kept a little lower than anticipated and struck him on the helmet before ricocheting into his stumps.

Rashid walked off the ground looking visibly dazed and later failed two concussion tests. He was asked not play the rest of the game as a precautionary measure. Afghanistan next play South Africa on June 15.

Afghanistan sunk to their third straight defeat in the tournament after looking good at the start of the match against the Kiwis.

Afghanistan motored along to 66 without loss after being asked to bat first but the intervention of James Neesham (5-31) led to a collapse from which they never fully recovered.
