DUBAI // Alastair Cook stonewalled any ideas of himself, Kevin Pietersen and Peter Moores working together in the near future despite recent rumours linking the South African-born batsman with a return to Test cricket.

Pietersen was involved in a public fall-out with the England management following the 2014 Ashes whitewash against Australia and has been overlooked for selection since.

However, new England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Colin Graves seemingly offered a glimmer of hope for Pietersen to return to the team earlier this month, and the 34-year batsman has made no secret of his desire to play for his country again.

Cook, however, clearly does not share Graves’ point-of-view.

“I think it is very unlikely,” said the England Test captain, who will lead the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) team in the Emirates Twenty20 tournament this weekend in Dubai.

"We have a huge amount of talent in our country. They didn’t show it on the world stage in Australia, but we have got the opportunity in the West Indies to start again."
