The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to call Chief Selector Moin Khan home from Australia after his visit to a casino in Christchurch created an uproar in Pakistan.

According to reports, Moin and his wife visited the casino before Pakistan’s heavy defeat to West Indies.

The former captain has claimed that he was there to have dinner and was not involved in any gambling activity, which is prohibited in Pakistani culture.

“As a follow-up of yesterday’s decision to probe the matter of the visit of Chief Selector PCB to a casino in Christchurch, PCB has instituted an inquiry into the incident. Today, consultations have taken place over telephone with Chief Selector Moin Khan, Pakistan team management and media personnel currently in Australia and with other sources,” the PCB press release explained.

“While there are widespread allegations into the conduct of the Chief Selector having brought the image of Pakistan and PCB into disrepute, there is no concrete proof available to substantiate the allegations against Moin Khan.

“Considering the sentiments of the public, media and various other stakeholders, Chairman PCB Shaharyar Khan has ordered Moin to return back to Pakistan immediately to explain his position vis-a-vis his visit to the casino.”

Pakistan’s World Cup campaign has been marred by bowling suspensions and injuries to key players Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Hafeez and Junaid Khan. If that was not enough, eight Pakistani players were fined $230 each for breaching the team’s curfew and two big losses were sandwiched between Moin’s episode at the casino.

According to the board, team manager Naveed Akram will now head the touring selection committee.
