As the showpiece of world cricket kicks off in 28 days down-under, Sport360 takes a look at the magic behind the number '28'.

– Cricket World Cup countdown: 29 days to go

South African batsman and cricket’s Vin Diesel, Herschelle Gibbs had an altogether different love affair of clearing the rope whenever he came out to bat in a World Cup match.

This is evident from his 28 sixes in the tournament which puts him in second position just behind Ricky Ponting, who holds the record of most sixes in ODI World Cup with 30.

But Gibbs’ 28 sixes are even more special for including his feat in becoming the first batsman to hit six sixes in a single over of an international match against Netherlands in 2007.

Dutchman Daan Van Bunge was the unlucky bowler to be on the receiving end as each of his 'leggies' were clubbed out of the Warner Park stadium in St Kitts.

Gibbs ended up scoring 72 off 40 deliveries with seven sixes and four fours, the South African winning man of the match as his team comprehensively beat the minnows by 221 runs.

His record still stands tall in 50-over World Cup history, while a similar feat was achieved Indian Yuvraj Singh in 2007's World Twenty20 as he struck six sixes of England’s then young gun, Stuart Broad.

Who knows, we mightsee a repeat of Gibbs’ heroics in Australia and New Zealand.
