Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan could miss the Asia Cup in the UAE after hinting he is likely to undergo surgery on his finger.

The 31-year-old’s pain with his little finger on his left hand resurfaced during the recent T20 series against West Indies and confirmed he is likely to have surgery before next month’s tournament.

“We all know that I have to have a surgery,” Shakib told reporters at Dhaka airport after Bangladesh team’s return from the West Indies.

“But I feel the earlier it is done, the better, most probably before the Asia Cup,” he said.

Shakib first suffered the injury during the ODI series against Sri Lanka in January but with the World Cup on the horizon in England next May, he wants to ensure he is fully fit for the showpiece event.

“I don’t want to play without being fully fit. If I think that way, it should be done before Asia Cup and that is normal,” he said.
