After David Warner, it was the turn of Australia batsman Steve Smith to face the main Test pacers during a net session in Sydney.

Warner and Smith remain suspended following the ball-tampering scandal earlier in the year but have returned to competitive cricket.

On Sunday, Warner faced Australian quicks Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins in Sydney hours before Australia’s deciding T20 against India.

Starc played that T20 which the Indians won. And on Tuesday, the left-arm quick joined Hazlewood and Cummins in testing Smith’s technique during an intense net session.

At one point, Smith fell flat on his back as he played an awkward pull shot to Hazlewood.

Cricket Australia XI captain Sam Whiteman, who witnessed the session, was impressed by what he saw.

“That was pretty good to watch actually,” Whiteman was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

“That’s not a great net to face up in. It looked like they were bowling well and to be fair Steve Smith made it look like he had a bit of time in there, which is pretty amazing to watch. It is good to see him (Smith) around the traps, especially his attitude throughout this whole thing.”
