While most teams are blooding in wrist spinners in limited overs cricket, Australia have kept leg-spinner Adam Zampa out of the squad for the ODI series in England. The 26-year-old is one of the best limited-overs wrist spinners in Australia but the men in gold have decided to not pick him for the England games even though he has a career record of 42 wickets form 31 matches at an economy of 5.6.

In an interview to Cricbuzz, Zampa said lack of regular cricket is hurting his chances. “It’s been a frustrating 12 months being in and out of the international team,” Zampa said. “It’s due to lack of cricket. T20 has always been considered my strongest format and since the IPL last year, I reckon I’ve only played seven or eight T20s in 12 months.”

Zampa is gearing up to play for Essex in the T20 Blast in England and is looking forward to getting back-to-back matches under his belt. “This is a good opportunity for me to get 14, 15, 16 games in straight,” he said.

“When I was bowling my best I was playing the Caribbean Premier League, the Aussie T20s and IPL all back-to-back. The more you play the better you get.

“I feel like I’m still learning but you actually have to play to get better. It doesn’t really matter what cricket you’re playing. I find even playing club cricket is a good opportunity for me to work on some things. Playing cricket is a short life-span so I’m just trying to get as much in. I obviously want my spot back in the Australian team.”
