Cricket Australia (CA) have appointed an ethics advisor to look into the sport’s culture in the country following the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town.

The sporting world was in shock  during the third Test between South Africa and Australia as captain Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were found to have carried out a plan to manipulate the ball with sandpaper.

The trio later received lengthy bans by CA. Following the incident, Australia’s governing body now want to ensure there is no repeat in the future.

“We understand and share the disappointment of fans and the broader Australian community about these events,” CA chairman David Peever said in a statement.

“The board is determined to do all we can to prevent such events from ever happening again.”

Simon Longstaff has been chosen to conduct a root-and-branch review. Head of Sydney-based non-profit organisation The Ethics Centre, he is set to interview current and ex-players, administrators, media and sponsors before announcing recommendations.
