Hong Kong get the better of UAE in World Cricket League ODI opener

Hosts UAE continued to flounder against Hong Kong for the second match in succession. 

Following their 276- run defeat in the fourday ICC Intercontinental Cup on Saturday, UAE failed to lift themselves up in the ICC World Cricket League one-dayer against the same opponents Monday.

Batting first after winning the toss at the ICC Academy in Dubai, debutant Mark Chapman’s 124 not out off 111 balls, inclusive of 11 fours and two sixes helped Hong Kong raise 298-4 in 50 overs.

In reply, UAE were bowled out for 209 in the 43rd over with only Shaiman Anwar (76 off 64 balls) providing some resistance. UAE fielded six debutants in the game – Yodhin Punja, Laxman Sreekumar, Umair Ali and Zaheer Maqsood.

Brief scores: Hong Kong 298-4 in 50 overs (Anshuman Rath 36, Kinchit Shah 34, Babar Hayat 45, Mark Champan 124 n.o; Zaheer Maqsood 2-56, Ahmed Raza 2-43) beat UAE 209 in 42.3 overs (Shaiman Anwar 76, Abdul Shakoor 24; Haseeb Amjad 3-49, A. Rath 3-22) by 89 runs. Man of the match: M. Chapman.
