Sachin Tendulkar has clarified that neither he, nor his brother, Ajit, have confirmed their involvement with an Ajman-based cricket project and tournament.

It was recently reported that Ajit had signed up with the UAE-based Khushi Group to start an international standard cricket academy in Ajman.

It was also announced by organizers of the newly-launched Gulf Premier League (GPL), also Ajman-based, that Sachin would be the chief guest and attend the final and hand out the trophies on October 16.

But the 43-year-old Tendulkar, who was in Dubai on Friday to attend ‘Cricket & Beyond – Join the Conversation’, said he has personally never been approached and while Ajit did visit Ajman on their invitation, nothing has been signed and sealed.

In a statement, Tendulkar said: “I have neither discussed nor confirmed to be a part of any initiative with the Khushi Group.

“I am not attending any event called the Gulf Premier League on October 16. I am surprised and concerned that fans are being misled about my association with the aforesaid.

“With regard to my brother, Ajit, who visited a proposed venue on an invitation, there has been no concrete discussion or conclusion on any proposed academy.

“The organisers should immediately desist from any mischievous act of misleading people about claims of any association with my brother or me, as none exist.”

Speaking to Sport360, Sachin added: “I hope young children interested in cricket haven’t signed up seeing my brother’s, or my name. That would be extremely unfair.

“Ajit was approached, but it has been more than 40 days since he last heard from them. It’s not signed and sealed yet.”
