The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that there have been discussions with the Board for Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the proposed four-nation tournament, starting 2021.

It is said to be an attempt to stop the ICC from hosting a major event every year and increase the revenue of the ECB, BCCI and Cricket Australia.

The annual tournament, which was proposed by the BCCI, will involve one Test playing nation apart from the ‘Big Three’ – India, England and Australia.

“We meet regularly with other leaders from the major cricketing nations to share learnings and discuss topics that impact our sport,” the ECB has told ESPNcricinfo.

“A four-nation tournament was raised at a meeting with the BCCI in December and we are open to discussions with other ICC members to see if this concept can develop.”

The proposed event, to be hosted by the ‘Big Three’ on a rotational basis from 2021,  may not be approved by the ICC as the series will not be part of its own multi-lateral roster.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has already spoken about the tournament, but Cricket Australia is yet to comment on the subject. Justin Langer, the head coach of Australia has commented that such a tournament could lead to quite a tight schedule.

“Australia, England, India and another top team will feature in the Super Series which begins in 2021 and the first edition of the tournament will be played in India,” Ganguly was quoted saying by Telegraph.
