Mominul Haque and Mahmudullah named as Bangladesh’s Test and T20I captains for India tour

Bangladesh have named a revised T20I squad and their Test squad for the tour of India, following the ban of all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Mominul Haque will lead the Test team while Mahmudullah has been named the T20I skipper for the three-match series.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam replaced Shakib in the T20I squad, while Abu Hider will fill in for inured all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin. Tamim Iqbal, who pulled out of the tour in order to stay home with his wife for the birth of their second child, has been replaced by Mohammed Mithun in T20Is and Imrul Kayes in the Test squad.

Left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman’s availability for the tour is the only silver lining for this beleaguered Bangladesh team. The 24-year-old who last played a Test in March, 2019 replaces Taskin Ahmed in the red-ball squad. Seamer Al-Amin Hossain makes also makes a return to the squad after last playing a Test in October, 2014.

The only uncapped player in the Test squad is the exciting 20-year-old top-order batsman Saif Hassan. Hassan has made two hundreds and one fifty in his last four innings in October, including a double-ton while playing for Dhaka Division. He averages 46.18 in 36 first-class matches since making his debut in 2015.

The three-match T20I series begins on November 3 at Delhi. It will be followed by a two-Test series beginning on November 14 in Indore with the second clash at the Eden Gardens now confirmed to be a Day/Night affair.
