BCCI chief steps aside until IPL inquiry is completed

12:30 04/12/2013

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced president N Srinivasan will step aside from his role until an investigation into allegations of spot-fixing in this year’s Indian Premier League has been completed.

However, Srinivasan has stopped short of resigning from the BCCI despite calls for him to consider his position.

The BCCI held an emergency meeting in Chennai today to address growing criticism of the board and Srinivasan in particular in the wake of spot-fixing allegations in the IPL.

Srinivasan’s son-in-law and Chennai Super Kings official Gurunath Meiyappan are among those arrested by police as part of the ongoing investigation.

On Saturday, IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla resigned from his position and today it was confirmed Srinivasan would also move aside for the time being.

“N Srinivasan announced that he will not discharge his duties as the President till such time that the probe is completed,” the BCCI said on their official Twitter account.

“Mr Jagmohan Dalmiya will conduct the day to day affairs of the Board.”

India fast bowler Shantha Sreesanth is one of three players arrested as part of the police investigation two weeks ago.
